Embracing Constraints

Most of us are familiar with the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

If you are of the baby boomer generation here in America as I am you were brought up to believe that the sky is the limit and barriers are only in place to trip or stop those that are weaker or less determined. We were taught to be persistent, to  never give up, to never accept that we had to play by the rules if the rules weren’t benefiting us.  We were taught we could change anything.

In this new economy – the new normal as many are beginning to refer to it; it may be wise to keep the Serenity Prayer in mind. If we embrace the current constraint of the credit market and other issues that face our businesses, stop wasting valuable resources, time and energy on those items we can not change in the near or foreseeable future; we will find new innovative ways to accomplish our goals and arrive at these solutions much faster.
